I
was in love with this boy name Shaheen (Not real name).
I call that afternoon love. Why, because every Friday at
4.00 I saw him coming through the main gate. He was probably
15 or 16 years old. And I was 14. I was type of girl who
is always smiling, meeting people without hasitation. Most
of the people knew me very well around our "para".
This boy, I am sure knew me too. But never raised his eyes
to look at me. Most of the boys in my area always eger to
talk to me. But he was different. He was not really shy
but some way it seemed to me he did a good job to avoid
me. In reality that worked for him. I began to have little
crash on him. He was cute too. Well build for his age and
unlike other boys he was not flarting with every girl.
I
waited for the Friday, when he would come. My feelings begun
to push me to go to talk to the boy. But how? As a girl
talking to a boy was not taken well in our culture. What
a problem, I was not sure what do I have to do to get noticed.
Why he does not want to look at me. He came again almost
same time and just go through the main gate and went into
the house next door. I felt so upset and angry. What was
wrong with this boy.
Finally,
I decided to go talk to him. It was almost 4.00 pm. I went
to the main door and look out the gate to the street. I
could see him coming now. He was walking toward the main
gate. I had my plan ready. Nothing wrong to ask him "how
are you" or "who are you". He opened the
main gate and steped inside and here I was waiting for him.
I
said: Shunun...(Listen)
He is still quiet, He just looked at me with unbeleive.
He just stood there.
I said: Apnar Naam Ki (What is your name)
Again he was just quiet and not saying a word.
I could not say anything anymore. I felt really insulted
and ashamed.
Next
day I am talking to a girl next door. And happened to asked
her,
- do you know a boy comes every Friday here?
She said, yeah...you talking about Shaheen Vai. He is a
nice boy but you know he can't talk.
-What.....what are you talking about, I said.
-Yes...isn't sad...what a nice boy..but...
